On Friday 24th February, Talent Match Champion Zara Parkin got to put on her sparkly shoes and attend the Glass Slipper Awards as a shortlistee for the Young Achiever Award 2017.
Hosted by the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead, The Chronicle Sunshine Fund’s Glass Slipper Awards celebrates the achievements and passion of women from the North East.
Zara has been involved with projects at Youth Focus: North East for almost three years, since her involvement in Reducing the Skills Gap with Gateshead Young Carers.
We nominated Zara for the Young Achiever Award for her dedication, commitment and drive in a number of areas. Zara is a regular volunteer here and has constantly put herself forward for opportunities to help others. Outside of Youth Focus: North East, Zara has recently completed a Fixers project aiming to inspire more young women to consider the STEM industries as a career. Zara has been an ambassador for women as a welder and has taken some big steps forward in advancing her career over the last 12 months. Finally, Zara has achieved all of this while caring for her Nan.
Unfortunately, Zara didn’t take home the final award but left bursting with pride. Watch Zara’s video from just before the awards here:
