The finale of our City Roots project with Stepney Bank Stables was completed on Friday evening, as the group’s contribution to local heritage was brought to life.
For the last few months, young people at Stepney Bank Stables have been exploring the Ouseburn Valley, using psycho-geography to unpick and understand their relationship with the area, and how the past has shaped their engagement with the current style. For many of the group, the obvious connection was the significant role horses have played throughout the development of Ouseburn. The group wanted to share their learning with the public, and create something which reflected the important and changing role of horses.
In collaboration with local artist and recent graduate, Alex Mulholland, the group designed a mural which now proudly features in the Stepney Bank Stables car park and proudly adds to the arty, urban scenery of Ouseburn.
City Roots has been supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
If you’re in Ouseburn, Newcastle, come and see the amazing design by young people from @Stepneybank and local artists Alex Mulholland, created through our City Roots programme as a reminder of the heritage and importance of horses in the Valley. #NationalLotteryHeritageFund @HeritageFundUK. #art #youngpeople
