Youth Focus: North East is currently working in partnership with Gateshead Young Carers to support young carers into employment.
The programme involves carrying out research and consulting with young carers as well as professionals who work with this group, and also employers in the Gateshead area to identify the barriers young carers face when gaining and sustaining education, employment and training.
Five young people have been recruited to analyse the findings and develop two new modules that will be added on to the Reducing The Skills Gap pre-employability programme.
Last week, the group researched and created the first module on confidence. They will come together again at the end of the month to develop the final module, which will complete the specially tailored programme specifically aimed at young carers.
