Today we heard the terrible news that a young person who we worked with over a number of years was killed yesterday in Newcastle. Jodie Wilkinson was a member of our Truth About Youth group, volunteering her time to work with others in promoting a more positive image of young people. Jodie was never shy about some of the problems she had confronted in her life, and her honesty and desire to change made her a surprising and refreshing personality in the group. Her ambition to re-shape her life led to her being awarded the Evening Chronicle Young Achiever Award in 2011. Jodie continued with our group for several years, and then drifted off to another life, and we lost touch. Whatever happened in Jodie’s life over the past couple of years, her death yesterday was devastating – a young woman who wanted to be a different person and make more of her life. Tragically, she will no longer have that opportunity. Our thoughts go out to Jodie’s family and friends, and the young people who got to know her through Truth About Youth.
Below is a case study Jodie wrote for our first Truth About Youth annual report. A memoir of better times.
