Half A World Away
A programme to explore and understand youth loneliness and isolation for those out of work or in precarious employment, and living in urban or rural areas.
Youth Focus: North East is looking to work with young people who are
unemployed or in uncertain employment – this might include seasonal
work, zero-hours contracts or casual employment. We will be
developing and delivering this project in Northumberland, Durham,
Gateshead and Teesside.
While the project could help them move into employment, education or
training, the focus of Half A World Away is about exploring and
understanding loneliness and isolation in terms of being out of work or
in precarious employment.
In each area, we will work with a group of young people in a rural setting
and also work with a group in an urban setting. We want to look at the
similarities within both groups as well as the differences around
experiences of being lonely or isolated and how young people deal with
this; bringing them together to share their stories and their ideas, and
then start taking positive steps to begin to tackle loneliness and
isolation. Our intention is to work for around twelve months in each
area, helping us to develop a community response.
