Leon Mexter is the Chief Executive and has worked at Youth Focus: North East since 2002. Leon has overall responsibility for the operational management and strategic development of the charity. He works closely with the Board of Directors and the staff team, to develop the strategic and business plan for the organisation, and ensure that it is working to meet its charitable objectives.
A significant role for Leon is in maintaining strong links with our regional and national partners including the Network of Regional Youth Work Units, Office for Civil Society Youth Policy Team and national youth organisations.
Leon also has a role in establishing new strategic partnerships with organisations and sectors in the North East. Recent examples include contributing to the work of the Leaders’ Network for Social Change in the North East, and developing a range of work with universities in the region.
Leon’s current focus for his development work is on co-production and its applicability across different work areas, and the application of quality assurance across the organisation. A particular area of interest for Leon is the relationship between the voluntary sector and the private sector. He is currently refining a Shared Value model to develop co-production initiatives with corporate partners.
When Leon is not at work, he enjoys time with his family and his two young sons, digging on his allotment and playing friendly cricket. Leon remains a stalwart member of the Mallards Cricket team (“the worst team in the world” Wisden), and he is hoping that his boys will one day follow in his dad’s size 14 footsteps, and join the team.
