Talent Match is a Big Lottery Fund initiative which aims to test innovative approaches to supporting long-term unemployed 18-24 year olds access work. A partnership of young people, employers, the third sector and public sector agencies, the programme is managed in the North East by the Wise Group.
Youth Focus: North East has been supporting youth voice in Talent Match North East since its inception. We have been commissioned to ensure young people continue to shape, deliver and evaluate the programme as it evolves.
For the last four years, young people have been involved in a range of activities including: forming part of the programme governance; developing marketing resources; recruiting young people as beneficiaries; engaging employers; commissioning services; recruiting individuals for the management team; coordinating events from employers and young people; shaping the regional Talent Match Awards and much more.
The Talent Match Leaders are continuing to support the programme’s delivery and are focusing on creating their legacy – An Employability Charter. The Charter highlights good practice when supporting young people to progress towards work and encourages organisations and individuals to continually improve their approach.
The Talent Match Young Researchers are supporting the programme evaluate its offer to young people. The Young Researchers have designed a research project to explore young people’s experiences of mental health support within Talent Match and from other sources.
Alongside these groups, Youth Focus: North East supports Talent Match partners to develop and embed their own models of youth participation, ensuring the programme involves young people from a grass roots level. We provide bespoke support to each organisation using our experience to discuss, advise and facilitate opportunities to involve young people across their work.
