On Thursday 30 May, five young people from MoJo Media travelled down to the Northern Region Film and Television Archive to get a behind the scenes look at how old film is stored, preserved, and played back.

MoJo Media were treated to a tour of the facilities including the vaults – stacked to the rafters with old news footage and archive material and kept at a constantly cool temperature to prevent the film from degrading – or worse – spontaneously combusting!

As part of the Teenage Kicks documentary project, the media team watched a selection of material that showed a snippet of teenage life in Newcastle between the 60s and 70s.

The archive, based at Teesside University, is home to thousands of films from 1911 up to the present day and is dedicated to collecting, preserving and sharing footage related to North East life throughout the years.
