Young Changers NE groups have been busy developing their positive local action projects, which will be delivered in areas throughout the region in the coming weeks.
Close work with the Gateshead Young Women’s Outreach Project is resulting in work looking at the maternity rights of young mothers still in school and they hope to meet with a variety of people to input their experience and views into their work.
A group of young people from Oasis Aquila are being supported to examine the impact of independent living and are producing resources which they hope will help those looking to move into their own property for the first time.
Our research into political education and engagement in the sector is coming to an end soon, but there are still opportunities to get involved. We are looking for organisations in the sector that would be willing to speak to Holly, our researcher, about if/how politics is embedded in practice and what help and support is needed to encourage political education and engagement.
More Young Changers NE groups are currently working on developing their ideas, so keep an eye out for more information on how the projects are getting on in the next couple of months.
If you would like to find out more information about our politics and local action work, please contact Jamie Mercer by email or by phone (0191) 477 9966.
Young Changers NE is funded by Ballinger Charitable Trust and delivered by Youth Focus: North East. The programme looks to encourage young people to engage in politics on a local, or hyper-local, level.
