Zeeshan Ayub, Youth Board member and Fire Cadet

Zeeshan’s first engagement with Youth Focus North East came through his volunteering at West Denton Fire Cadets and the You+Us #iwill social action programme. Since, Zeeshan has taken up a range of further
volunteering opportunities and joined the Youth Focus North East Youth Board.

Zeeshan is a Fire Cadet and was keen to be part of the national #iwill campaign and get involved in volunteering and social action. As part of his group, they decided to connect with young people with a disability. They planned, designed and delivered three safety and drill sessions and a celebration day for the young people and their families.

Zeeshan said “I really liked this project, especially when we met the young people and got to know them. This project has changed my views of the young people we were working with and how they learn. Being able to teach other young people what I know and pass on my knowledge on was amazing”.

Zeeshan has been part of the Fire Cadets for over 6 years and has risen to Watch Manager, which is the highest rank within the cadet programme. He was nominated for Inspirational Young Person of the Year his ongoing commitment to creating equal opportunities for all.

Zeeshan was the captain of the Tyne and Wear Fire Service Cadet team, took part in the National Fire Cadet games in London last year, and won the dignity and respect trophy.

Most recently, Zeeshan has joined the Youth Focus Youth Board to help us on our quest to improve the lives of young people. He has signed up for the the National Steering Group with the British Youth Council and Department for Culture, Media and Sport to help shape youth policy, and he will be venturing off to Pakistan in March with the International Emergency Team UK to talk to young people in Kashmir about the benefits of the Fire Cadets.

We think it is fair to say that Zeeshan is an Inspirational Young Person and is most certainly on his way to creating a bright future not only for himself, but for many others.
